WHO rejects Taiwan participation at WHA - again (General)
It's important to remember that Totalitarianism is alive and well as a system of government. It's not just China - the Arabian countries - many in Africa, South America. Then there's corrupt 'democratic' countries (Russia) which is practically the same thing. WHO is a great example of a corrupt 'democracy' in action.
These countries vote as a block. As it stands - Totalitarianism is the ruling faction. Their edicts have got nothing to do with your health - on the contrary - it's pure politics.
That's the cold hard fact of who WHO is.
Two trends in the supposedly democratic, progressive West bother me about this. One is that these world organizations did seem to offer hope and promise after WWII for a more sane world. The UN, WHO, World Bank, IMF, etc., in theory, are meant to be stabilizing forces. But in fact, as you point out, they have become political tools serving special interests, tools we quite literally pay for.
So there's that. But now in the US we have two opposing, extreme political camps. And with regards to these international organizations, this is a very odd, and very disturbing situation.
The far right generally opposes these organizations for a variety of reasons. The middle to far left, on the other hand, embraces them.
The ironic nature of all this is that the far right is, by nature, totalitarian (though some claim to be libertarian, which is bullshit), and the far left claims to be 'woke', and yet embraces these totalitarian world bodies!
And so we have both ends of the spectrum supporting, in one form or another, totalitarianism, with the far right dabbling in fascism.
Meanwhile, these international organizations that were meant to protect us from all this bullshit have sold out to the highest bidder.
This seems to be a very unstable situation. On top if it all, we have growing wealth inequality, decreasing natural resources (particularly water and food), and very fragile supply chain infrastructure. In short, we're in deep shit.
