To accept science, or somebody's choices on what direction to take in scientific discovery, or how to spend public money on someone's choices for how to use science, to expect society to just accept this on faith is disturbing. Let's not forget that science can be used for some very bad things. It's agnostic. It's not good in and of itself.

Yes, it's a bit rich whinging that the public doesn't trust 'us' enough when 'us' controls all the most powerful global platforms - which 'us' used to propagate a whopper - to 'secure the planet'.

It's the old 'some are more equal than others' routine.
