September2024Weather diary page Sep 11, Kanagawa: The heat continues. A week ago the forecast was for cooler weather with highs around 31, which still would have been above normal. It's been solid red since early July. Note that the attached picture indicates normal temps for this time of between 20-27, so we're a solid 7 degrees above normal every day. It was 27 at 5AM with 94% humidity. Sep 14, Kanagawa: Unseasonably hot and humid. 27 at 5AM with 90% humidity, 32 later on. That's a solid 7 degrees above normal, and that's a chronic condition, not a passing one day off event. Sep 15, Kanagawa: 28 with 88% humidity at 5AM. High of 32 today. Saw a cormorant this morning. Sep 23, Kanagawa: 23 at 6:30PM with 67% humidity. This is the first night we won't need air con. Major stationary front dropped record breaking rain on the west coast over the last three days. It has now moved east of us. Sep 25, Kanagawa: We seem to have finally turned a corner on this heat. We may still get a few days over 30, but the lows are getting lower. 19 last night. Sep 26, NR: 10 day dry patch is about to end with big rain forecast in the coming two days. Crazy numbers of March flies. Pecans starting to re-leaf. Temps well above ave. Two chooks (both whiteys) came down with (what i think is) gastro after the last rain, but i segregated them & they pulled through after a few days. Sep 28, NR: Fucking rain has arrived. It's the dreaded variety - East Coast Low, which is basically a Tropical Storm. As usual it's about triple what was forecast - we've had about 100mm since yesterday & another full day's worth to come down today which may bump it up to 200mm. Water-table is back up - that means that any rain in the coming weeks will be enough to keep it up. Have put chooks into lockdown to try to stop the gastro. Despite 2024 being one of the wettest years on record, this is the first ECL since 2022, when we had about 4-5 of them. They all follow the same pattern - form off the coast of Brisbane or thereabouts, head south, duck onto land right where i am, then head off to NZ once the blocking high moves on. |
