Weather diary page

Nov 4, Northern Rivers: I barely dare type these words, but there's been a reasonable dry run for the last couple of weeks. Enough to get more road-base on the access road. 4 truck loads. Didn't go as far as i thought/remembered. Only 40-50 metres a load at $550 a pop - in a road that's 1km long. It was a new road-base guy, coz the guai-shou-guy (Mr Bobcat) had had a falling out with the S & L Sand & Gravel. Which is cool, but I was thinking 4-loads = half the access road & some left over for other areas, but it wasn't like that. Today was 32C, which = fuck-you on Beaufort scale of working under direct sun - starting from 29 - i start to whine. But had to endure it to not look like a wimp. Plugged away at the compost toilet build whilst managing roadbase proceedings & pile redistribution from dug-out stuff from last week's drain diggings. Dingo/wild dog was around - not worried by the guai-shou at all. Mr Bobcat saw it twice, i saw it once, separately - which made me wonder if it was even attracted to the sound - also slashing paddocks currently - both of which reduce cover for small prey. Didn't let the chooks out till late coz of that - no dramas. Storms around - typical shrapnel style for this time of the year - there's (dramatic) lightning to the south west as i write - just over the rocks. Farmer Danny did say there are two kinds of summer storms - from the west - & the ones that drop over the rocks (sw). The west is worse, usually, it's got a bigger run-up. Rocks give some protection from the sw wind at least.

Nov 9, NR: Heatwave (30+, 34 max) for the last 5 days without any storms to relieve it. Temp was close to 28C when i went to bed two nights ago, which is about as hot as it gets as a night time temp, hotter even than Xing Chang. Today is cooler (29), but there was no thunderstorm (or even rain) ushering in the cool change, which crept in last evening - it was one of those ones where it just gets gradually gets cooler. Which sounds fine, but the arthritis levels went through the roof - not sure if i've had such a severe attack before. Slightly concerned that it's something more than arthritis - coming from the hip replacement - quite sharp - difficult to walk. Wallabies are back on a daily basis - one with a new baby.

Nov 17, Kanagawa: So far, November has been mild with most days a few degrees above average. Today will be exceptionally warm with a high forecast at 22 with sun. That's all about the change next week when lows will hit single digits for the first time and highs for a couple days will be in the 12-14 range. We realized recently that the sweet olive tree in our yard didn't bloom this year at all, probably due to the very warm fall we had. It usually blooms in mid October. Nothing at all this year. Cormorants are back.
