December2024Weather diary page Dec 3, Nimbin: "Not only was spring the hottest on record, it was also the wettest, about 28 per cent above the 1961-1990 (mean) average." That accords with my experience, though October was cooler. We now seem to be in that Taiwan-style range where it's 30+ every day. Storms once a week or less. Dec 15, NR: Weekly pattern has been 3 days nice weather, then 4 days rain. I do think this (or maybe next) year is the last of the big-wet cycle playing out. It's whether it goes out with a bang - or gradually winds down into a dry cycle. I'm cheering for gradually winds down. Full-catastrophic bushfire conditions are at least one to two years away, even if the weather pattern changed tomorrow. But those conditions will come again. Our observations indicate the cycles are still there, but they've become more extreme more frequently. I'm getting a 7-year-rule as a rough guide. Joseph & his dreamcoat might have been right all along. Saw a family of 6 rails. Most i've seen - two adults & 4 kids. Even the adults you don't normally see together outside breeding season - they're independent types. Arthritis has been good, touch wood, almost weirdly so. Dec 30, Kanagawa: This will be our last winter in Japan, and last spring. December has been dry, but otherwise normal with regards to temperature. Mt. Fuji has snow, but less than in previous years. Has it rained at all this month? I'm not sure. So far, the winter has been mild. This does not feel like a new year. Something feels amiss, off, odd. Dec 31, Nimbin: Rare dry spell of over a week, which has been great weather to kick of camping business. There was rain forecast in that period but it didn't eventuate - not here anyway. Still big falls out west & to the north. Temps highs around 30, down to about 18-19. Tomatoes have just started blooming, which should mean fruit ready by end of Feb. Cactus type plant at back has bloomed. |
