April2025Weather diary page April 21, Northern Rivers: Several follow up rains since cyclone Alfred - nothing crazy (up to 100mm) but extended days of rain - weeks of it even. Paddocks were all bogged up. Been doing camping on my property, so the windows for getting campers safely in & out have been very small. One of them was so small that they did in fact get bogged & it took 2-3 hours to get them out. If i'm here next year i think i will just close it down for autumn, for 2wd at least. Campers come with these Toyota Hi-Aces, which is great for camping, but it must be one of the most boggable vehicles out there - i've had two bogged here. They're so heavy but only 2wd. It was a minor miracle that my Subi was able to pull them out (along with planks under the tires). Was fully booked for Easter & wondering if i'd have to cancel, but miraculously, it fined up just before Easter & we've had a week of sunny mid-20s weather. Only had two sites open. Despite the fine weather it was touch & go as to whether i could get campers in coz the ground was still quite soft. Finally managed it without any drama though i did put in two trailer loads of road-base to get to Base Camp & even then i made a Toyota Hi-Ace park 20m short of their site, in order to be safe. The 4wds had no problem. Rain has returned today - next week is all rainy. Lot of currawongs about. Pretty sure i saw an Osprey a couple of days ago. It was mainly white, it was soaring, & wasn't a sea eagle (which has a distinctive classic eagle shape) (edit: Pacific Buzza is another possibility) Wallabies come & go for days at a time. Surge in goanna sightings. Had a lot of other things going on in my life the past couple of months, which is why i haven't posted much. April 24, NR: The same thing Dan was saying about the cold, i could write about the wet here. Yeah, socks & my arthritic hips are not a good match, but I'd love to live in a place where i don't need gumboots (with socks) for several months of the year. March, April, May always seems the wettest so we're right in the thick of it. After the rare dry interlude over Easter, it's back to rain again. Frequent showers the last two days & 2+inches forecast for tomorrow. Grass looks to have slowed down - one last cut for the season should see it out. Been wearing track-pants most nights for the last couple of weeks in the evenings, but no cold nights - lowest it's been is 13C. Actually, i'm looking forward to the cold as cold air is usually dry air. |
