Database restored to a backup version of about 14 hours ago. Old passwords should work now.

Sorry for all the trouble! At least now I know which backup/restore method to use.

It looks like this post may have been lost in the carnage. Posts from last night (July 22, 2021) until today noonish were lost I think.

More interesting bed-fellows...

Of all you brainiacs with immense power, not one of you thought jumping into bed with the CCP to shape the future of humanity might be a bad idea?

Had to look 'aetiology' up. It means ‘the study of root causes’. Cool - me too.

Which led to this: Farrar was one of the original ‘world-leading experts’ that signed, then pushed the Lancet Statement --> https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1-c0aYAoym9ll8HVTNpV3v17wNo7JTdPYWBMi1gjKagI/edit.

This statement, arguably, was a 'root cause' for the international spread of Covid. We’ll examine that next...

Update:

The database was restored and I think we only lost a couple of recent postings.

I cannot add or edit users, which is not good. I'm guessing that there is a conflict between the forum software and the latest version of php on my server. I could try messing around with changing php versions, but I don't think that will fix anything and may very well do a lot of damage.

There's a new version of this forum coming out soon, and that may provide a fix. At least the database was easy to restore.

If you can't sign in, send an email to dan at this domain.

I'm going to the beach...

I should have added that user passwords should have reverted to what they were yesterday. I did just try to add a user, which didn't work, and hopefully that didn't break anything, but if you can't log in, I can always restore the database again, being sure not to mess with anything this time.

I'll get this fixed eventually.

Was getting this error message on 'preview/submit' - so broke it into two posts - then it did seem to work. But finally they didn't stick.

No drama - drafts on the computer - even saved them in coded form coz it was acting up and you'd mentioned you were going in...

Good job getting Formosahut going and still going after all these years. Remind me when we need to have a milestone anniversary drink.

New version sounds exciting - any snazzy functions coming up?

Drafts on the computer are probably smart, particularly given all the work you're putting into research. This snafu

I didn't see anything too exciting, but it's good to know that a team is still developing this platform. A lot of these small, little known apps are worked on by just one person who eventually gives up. This project actually has a team of five people or so. I really like this type of forum, and there isn't anything quite like it out there. All the popular forums are bloated and annoying to maintain and use.

You posted this message, so it sounds like things are working. Let me know if you're still getting error messages. I'll try communicating with the developers and see if I can get the user errors fixed.

My service provider backs up databases every day.

UPDATE: I reverted to the default theme in my efforts to figure out what's wrong with this installation. That just means you won't see the familiar links at top. I am in communication with the developers to try to figure this out.

I'm feeling much better about things. I managed to import the data from this forum (data exported Aug 5, 2021) and import it to a fresh install, and it seems to have worked. I didn't import everything, but it looks like it does work.

You can find it here: http://formosahut.com/fh_forum2/mylittleforum-2.4.24.

So it looks like if this forum, which has been going for nearly ten years I think, breaks, I'll be able to rebuild it quickly.

I might delete that above forum after a few days. I'll play around with it a bit first.

The Forum was just updated and now seems to work. There was a problem with uploading images. Please respond here if you encounter problems.
