It's not going away - it's not even new actually - took off with the computer, internet. It's an extension of that.
In fact, you could go back further to the origin of ORG GODS if you want - that desire to organize/centralize information - establish a controlling culture.

As with the computer/internet/culture, AI's a two-edged sword.
Great for controller Orgs, but a potential weapon for those who resist them.
Which says something about the generative dichotomy of existence - it's hard to have existence without dichotomy/observation.

Either way - it now defines the field in which the game is played.

As a researcher/activist, i see how it can be a tool.

As a computer ignoramus, i'd like to hear Dan's assessment of what are the better ones going around.
