In southern Florida these things have decimated a number of species, including a few endangered mammals. They're non-native, obviously, and they have no predator. They're the equivalent of the brown tree snake on Guam, which was introduced and has wiped out many of the native bird species.
On the one hand, Taiwan is the perfect environment for them and they'll thrive. On the other hand, if the government gives the green light to kill them all, and gives 1,000NT/head, and a recipe for cooking them, they'll have the problem taken care of overnight.
It will be interesting to see what happens. As big as this is, there are probably more.
