Hurricane Dorian (Weather)
Cat 5 crossing the Bahamas now - there will be destruction. Remains to be seen what happens after that - predicted to skirt up the coast of Florida rather than make a crossing but still has potential to cause havoc

Sustained winds of 185 mph -- that's approaching tornado speeds, for hours if you're hit directly. Insane.

Now they're saying "stalled over the Bahamas"
'Stalled' and 'Category 5' are not two words you want to hear in the same sentence if you're directly under it
Ok, it's been downgraded to Cat 3 but it hit as a cat 5 and it's still packing tremendous punch
Must be terrible destruction and reports say "at least 5 dead" at this stage - guess there will be more
Meanwhile a random day's gun violence in America resulted in 7 dead and 22 injured

A low-lying island and stalled monster hurricane was never going to end well - incredible devastation that will take a long time to recover from
I think we had a thread somewhere on the rise of the monster systems after the Mozambique hurricane - this is another one of them

Stunning videos. At the end of the first one we clearly see a concrete block building blown to shreds. That's the sort of thing that happens in tornadoes, but this is covering entire islands. It looks like the sort of damage that would happen from a tornado plus a tsunami.

The news cycle will move on but that place has been smashed - reminds me of the Paradise wildfires - how is that community going to recover?

Reports say 90% of infrastructure has been damaged. Death toll at 43 with "hundreds missing".
It's now heading to Canada!
