According to KMT Taipei mayoral candidate, Ting Shou-chung (丁守中), 4000 buildings would collapse in Taipei if it was hit by a 6M earthquake.

Don't know what research he was basing this on, if any, after all it is election time, but it would be disturbing if it was true. And giving the 'economic miracle' building boom where shoddy construction was supposedly rife, it could possibly be - that era of building has never really been tested in Taipei.

If there were only 5 casualties for each collapse that would be 20 000 dead - for a 6M

It could be a fairly accurate estimate if you consider all the older brick buildings and schools.
