Puyuma Train Derailment (General)

Imagine how scary that must have been to be on that train!

The investigation results will be interesting. One report says the 'emergency brakes' were applied several times before the crash - makes me wonder if there was some pre-existing problem with over-acceleration...

Yeah that's tragic. Those Puyuma trains just came online a few years ago, right? They were supposed to be able to take curves faster.

At first I suspected it could have been a landslide but looking at the photos it seems to be in a relatively flat area

Apparently they travel at up to 150kph, and have a tilting mechanism

Has been in operation since 2013

Lots of stuff is automated these days so not sure what the 'driver's' role is exactly - but if it had been around the same bend many times before without incident you'd suspect it was going too fast on this occasion

The question is would that be the robots fault or the driver

And if it is the robot's fault, who ultimately will take responsibility? This is one of the big issues with self-driving cars.
