Road Closures Taiwan (General)

Following last year's (preventable) tragedy where two tourist buses were swept off the haulien-suao road (in conditions not unlike today's), gates were installed on many of the main mountain roads. I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find information about whether they have been closed or not - might be useful info to post if someone does know how to access it. Whether they are closed or not, i wouldn't recommend trying to get through on the haulien-suao road today (oct1). The combination of the typhoon fracturing as it interacts with land in ppe and the beginning of the Dong Bei Ji Fong (the north east monsoon) is literally a recipe for disaster.

I found this gov. site:

http://www.freeway.gov.tw/english/Publish.aspx?cnid=1134

I've found that with these government sites, the English page has far less information than the Chinese version, which comes as no surprise. The home page (Chinese) is at http://www.freeway.gov.tw/.

It looks like the Chinese page for work and closures is at http://www.freeway.gov.tw/Publish.aspx?cnid=197.

I'll add these links to the wiki as well.

We're getting very high winds here now and the rain has started.

I heard that a landslide closed the rd from Hualiean to Su Ao today - but no mention of it on the government 'road closure' website. Drove through there a few days ago - there are several very dodgy looking sections on it.

Update on the road closure. Seems a substantial section of the ocean side lane from the Su Hwa (no. 9) rd fell down the cliff and into the sea yesterday. Luckily, no-one was injured. The unusual/frightening thing is that it happened on a day without rain, or without heavy rain at least. It occured at the 115.8 km mark (which is up towards Su-Ao where the two buses went off last year, and is expected to close the road for at least a week. Glad i did my furniture run to Taipei last week.
