Well, not the dramatics of last year, but it did still come through with a real wintery blast. Down to 9 C in the north and as low as 14 here. Big dbjf (pushing 70k) but no significant rain (though wet in cheng gong and just south of Taidong city). Still gusting pretty well tonight.

This is the set up for about boxing day. Have to say i was a bit underwhelmed by the winds from the last front that came through even though we did get good rains out of it but this might be a bit more like what we had last year - and almost exactly the same time of year.

And here's the graph from last year again - does look similar.

Here's the rainfall for today - an island wide event. Reifang in the north east has had over 300 mil in the last couple of days. We got off a lot lighter here, but still a nice garden drenching of about 26 mil today.
No real wind to speak of - thought that would have started already but think it will come tomorrow. it's a lot cooler, but no big temp plunge so far.

Rain started just after last post and includes thunder and lightning. Don't think i have ever seen that in Dec. This could be something out of the ordinary.

All calm on the eastern front but judging from the radar that's not gonna last much longer and it should hit some time tonight. Bit of purple in the radar as well so it's packing some serious rain.

Should be a big north easterly coming through soon and bringing a cool change with it and according to the charts it looks like it's gonna blow all week. Will be interested to see what happens when the cold front hits rain wise, especially around ilan. Last year at the end of Dec we had the so called 'winter typhoon' which was was caused by similar conditions.

By comparison, this is the graph for last year's big winter storm. The lows and the cold front match up pretty well, but the high pressure doesn't seem to be packing as much wind this time - not at this stage anyway.
