6.5 Quake off Ilan-June10 (reply)

A 5.3 earthquake shook Victoria, Australia tonight. That's not massive, but it's one of the biggest ever in Australia. Would seem to fit into your chain reaction theory. Hope we don't get a 'biggest ever' earthquake here. Though the dogs were going nuts last night.
"LARGE areas of Victoria, including Melbourne, were rocked last night by the state's biggest earthquake in more than a century.

The quake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, struck at 8.53 pm. It rattled buildings and frightened residents from Gippsland to the western district, and almost as far north as the NSW border."

6.5 is a major quake. In fact that's my personal 'major quake standard'. If it's 6.5 or over, watch out.

If you think about it, especially here on the east coast, a major quake could be really, really disruptive mainly because it would wipe out a lot of the bridges we depend on. Bridges are some of the first infrastructural victims in big quakes. And we have a lot of bridges in this area, both large and small.

To include a picture with the markers, you need to do a screen grab. Those markers you see aren't actually part of the picture, so when you save the pic, you're just saving the underlying jpg. See links below.

Screen capture applications:
* http://www.hernansoft.com/products.html - Captura (very basic and fast; it's the second app listed on that page.)

6.5 Quake off Ilan-June10

Ok Dan, now I am really starting to think you might be onto something. In fact those exact thoughts were going through my head when it woke me from a highrise apartment building in Taipei during those unnerving few seconds where you know it's a pretty big one and you're wondering just how far it's planning on going with this.

So, are we there yet? Or are we really building up for something geologically momentus?

Think i will start recharging all the rechargeable flashlights and getting in a good supply of drinking water and tinned spam anyway.

How the hell did you get that map to come up with the markers on it? Doesn't work for me.
