<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Yeah, you&#039;re right, that suddeness in the middle of the night - also the south doesn&#039;t actually get hit by that many typhoons apparently so it sounds like it caught them totally unprepared. And yeah about the media coverage too.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This sounds like an absolute disaster. The death toll now stands at well over 1,000, and it hardly makes any international news. After all, it&#039;s the Philippines. Who gives a shit! If it had happened in Florida we&#039;d be hearing about it for six months. I&#039;m not clear on why the death toll was so high. They probably have more experience with these storms than anybody in the world. It sounds like a lot of the flooding happened very quickly and at night. Regardless, it was a bad one.</p>

<title>27-W - Typhoon Washi</title>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Typhoon Washi (reaching cat 1) which looked pretty similar to the procession of lows that have been crossing the ppe over the last couple of months, has turned out to be the most disastrous one of the season killing over 600 people in south ppe - mostly in Mindanao. <img src="http://images.theage.com.au/2011/12/19/2847928/art-washi-420x0.jpg" alt="[image]"  /><br />
Unlike the other lows, it hasn&#039;t caused much rain in Taiwan - probably a bit too far south to affect us.</p>
