Here's the Taiwan version. I can actually see it happening from here - the mountains to the north are lighting up almost constantly and look like something out of Lord of the Rings, but it's all the way up in Ilan.

Sounds like fun! It must be nice to have that afternoon storm to just break the heat up a bit.

21 minutes later. This started dissipating shortly after I went out. That show lasted about 15-20 minutes in all. Tomorrow we'll get another. It happens every afternoon, but we only get a good shower maybe once a week. Things do cool down significantly though regardless of whether it rains or not. The breeze and clouds feel good, and the thunder is soothing.

Check out the screen grab. We are just north of center, within walking distance of Istachatta. That dotted line above Istachatta is the county line, and our property is on each side of that line, just west of where it meets the river. The blob of weather in the NE corner appeared within 2 minutes. Amazing. It's serious weather too, and then it just goes away. Daily warnings include this excerpt:

...THUNDERSTORM IMPACT...
THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED EACH DAY...FROM LATE MORNING THROUGH
EARLY EVENING WITH THE GREATEST COVERAGE DURING THE AFTERNOON.
THESE STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG GUSTY
WINDS...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS...AND FREQUENT DEADLY LIGHTNING
STRIKES.

I've been sitting outside with a beer listening to the low rumbling mixed in with birdsong and breeze. Great. I'm going back out. It's not raining yet, and it very well may not at all.

Here's the screen grab:
