The Big Dry (Weather)

We are now up to three weeks without rain and only one rain day in the last five weeks.
It felt like a warm winter and it was. Although Dec and Jan were actually pretty close to ave, Feb was significantly warmer than usual with a mean temp of 22.4 compared to the ave of 20.0. March feels significantly hotter again but the figures are not out for that yet.
Interestingly, this has coincided with a very hot March in southern Australia where several heat records have been broken. It's almost like global warming has suddenly taken a dramatic lurch forward.
There looks to be a few fronts coming down from the north but it's hard to say if they will bring any falls here. March is meant to be dry (ave 40.5ml) but this is looking like an extra dry one.
Anyway, the radar is flaring up in a band just to the east of us and it looks like we might be a chance of getting some of that.

Well yesterday's radar produced nothing, but tonight we have finally got some rain! Similar kind of band, not as strong, but it has popped up on the coast tonight instead of just off it. Interesting weather actually preceding it. Started out with a big early morning dry wind coming down off the mountains (SWW - pretty rare except in its gentler evening form)that then tended southerly. Then without much of a lull and just a slight dip in temperature, that turned into a north-easterly around noon. Though still dry, in fact there wasn't a cloud in the sky, though very hazy - about as hazy as it gets. That died off on evening, with still very few clouds around at sunset, but then sprang up again, started raining around 10pm, and then the wind dropped again.

How much rain did you get at your place? I'm guessing we got 5mils here max. Also, I find it unusual that this cold front is coming through sometime tomorrow afternoon+, and yet the CWB rates the chances of rain for that transitional period as 0. That's pretty gutsy coming from an organization that seems hell-bent on always predicting a 30% chance of rain.

Yeah, a grand total of 0.85 ml here - which doesn't even qualify as rain really coz it's not enough to even water the vegie patch. Sounded ok on the roof and looked like it was gonna be something but then it just died in the ass.

Got awful dark around 4.30 and there was another very light sprinkling, but it's gone now. We could still be in with half a chance of something tonight, judging by the sat pic. Would seem to be threatening the west coast more than us but CWB has the whole west coast at 0%.

Think i am gonna have to leave the half finished furniture outside overnight - that should guarantee some rain - even better than you hanging out the clothes washing.

Meanwhile, your typhoon is still there and gathering a bit of shape - that might be our saviour in the end.

I tend to think that there's at least a little rain in the picture over the next 72 hours, possibly much sooner. Your furniture may tilt the scales in our favour.

That coastal range really works. rained almost everywhere on the island except here.
4mm last fri and 1mm before that gives us a grand total of 5mm for march - and nothing obvious on the horizon.
