CWB (Weather)

I don't want to gripe about CWB, they've made a lot of great improvements in the last few years... but...

For Taidong they always seem to use the rain cloud icon. I understand their method is that if it's 30% or above they use the rain cloud, but they only give that 30% pop figure for the next 36 hrs. For the other 6 days it's just the icon and if you scroll over it it invariably says, 'Mostly cloudy with occasional showers' - what they mean is 'chance of showers' but they always write 'occasional showers'. Like it's gonna rain several times during the day.

Ok, I know now not to pay attention to that, after many years, but if you were a tourist looking at their forecast, like the one below, then you would think that it was going to rain day and night for the next week! The reality is that it rarely rains here at this time of year especially - and there hasn't been a drop of rain in the whole forecast period.

CWB

I think they're just west-coast-centric and consider any precipitation at all to be substantial since we get almost nothing here on the west coast all winter. You at least get sprinkles, or fog, or mist, or something. When raindrops actually fall here in the winter, they leave huge splotches on cars. I'm not sure if it's because they pick up so much dust on the way down and are essentially mud drops, or if it's because they displace the two months of dust accumulated on the cars. Probably a bit of both, but I think most of it is due to accumulated dust not on the cars, but in the air. I haven't seen rain, real rain, since at least August. Even the last typhoon didn't bring us anything.
