Following last year's (preventable) tragedy where two tourist buses were swept off the haulien-suao road (in conditions not unlike today's), gates were installed on many of the main mountain roads. I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find information about whether they have been closed or not - might be useful info to post if someone does know how to access it. Whether they are closed or not, i wouldn't recommend trying to get through on the haulien-suao road today (oct1). The combination of the typhoon fracturing as it interacts with land in ppe and the beginning of the Dong Bei Ji Fong (the north east monsoon) is literally a recipe for disaster.
